Arch: Neighborhood Pool

Cornell/S1/Y3/1350 - Integrative Studio

This is a proposal for a 50m pool located in Ithaca at the current skatepark. It is designed to be a competition pool as well as a community pool and gym. It uses novel 3D concrete printing for large shear walls and employs a massive 220’ span catenary roof structure. Modeling people as forces and applying those forces to the site, how does a program derived from my memory of a pool adapt? This proposal attempts to answer that question while creating a high performance building as reflected in the final form. The structure derives the form while the form integrates the structure, allowing for a single move to define the massing of the building as it responds to questions of building performance, program, architecture, and people.
